Council of Class Presidents meeting, Spring 2025

Hi friends! Below is a summary of the highlights from the Spring 2025 Council of Class Presidents meeting in Annapolis. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Dr. Samara Firebaugh, Provost and Academic Dean
– Priorities: Connecting, communicating and aligning the core curriculum for warfighter development
– Increasing geopolitical competency
– Fostering innovation and research relevant to national security

Captain David Forman, Deputy Commandant
– Multiple programs to help mids be successful: Onramp program, Preservation Review Board, Commissioning Vector Check, “speeding tickets” (the latter to document infractions)
— Mids must score a minimum of “excellent low” Navy standard for physical readiness
— All mids will have a leadership billet as a 1/c

VADM Yvette Davids, Superintendent
– Priorities remain: character above all else, prepare warfighters, culture of excellence, infrastructure resilience
– Course reviews: alignment in 870 courses, two considered misaligned and canceled due to gender matters; 18 courses will be re-aligned with minor changes
– Library books are sequestered under lock and key; working with the Navy chain of command on the next step
– Columbarium: less than 30 spots left, projects underway for expansion that need funding (additional information: 650 niches for phase one, TBD for phase two which has not yet been designed; current fundraising need for phase one is 1.8 of 2.5 million dollars)

Mr. Chet Gladchuk, Athletic Director
– Retiring this year
– Navy Letterwinners Association established in 2025 — reconnect with Navy Athletics!
– We may have our best recruiting class ever next year
– We are not losing many of our Navy Varsity athletes to the portal

Now’s the Time, 89!
Warmly, Denise”
